First Love

All love once sparked then kindles future heart
To know its beauty, softened though still light
And guided by the ashes far from sight
Across horizons stretching souls apart.
One yearns to fall into that cozy gaze,
Transfixed within those ethereal eyes
Though able now to muster only sighs
That smolder deep as soot embraces days.

But fervor burns with passion, heat, and hope
Now smothered deep to keep the ardent drive,
A goal and muse which fans the fire alive
For thought is fuel, allowing love to cope.

With life away from true engulfing flame,
The warmth yet finds us through life's lonely rain.
